Middleton . 6 x 8" . oil on panel
private collection
It's been a crazy time of late - both in my personal life and in the world I think. In the peace and quiet of a studio you can find inspiration from old photo references you have stored for years. . .moments, places that are meaningful, days long gone by that still resonate with immense love and a sense of life being magical - of an essence larger than your heart and mind will ever begin to understand.
"Middleton" was painted out of that kind of space and time - only my family knows the importance of this scene to me - what it signifies. Oddly, it has also resonated with someone from the low country and it's his now. Not totally in his possession yet, as it has to dry and have its final varnish.
This is a painting from the heart and often it's good to give away that which means the most to you.
No, never easy, but when given freely and with gratitude it will carry that essence with it, and hopefully will reside in love and peace, sharing its small beauty in another's life, day in, day out. That is the most we can ask for, isn't it? My sentimental feelings overflow these days. . .
