Behind the scenes. . .

I'm sure you'll instantly understand when I say that it's the people BEHIND a commission that give the work such benefit and interpretation.  The gentleman pictured above, Bob, is a golf-playing, former attorney who will soon celebrate a milestone birthday with his lovely wife and somewhere in the vicinity of 100 friends!  We should all be so fortunate.  His beloved requested a portrait and our saga began. . .

I visited with Bob and his wife, Evelyn, in their home to take some initial photos - they had definite ideas of what they desired - everything from the clothing to the setting!  All of it chocked full of meaning for them, and to say they were a dream appointment would be an understatement.  Their decisions made even before I arrived created a convivial meeting of the minds, and I was amazed at their innate artistic sense and attention to detail.  Bob shared the story of the desk in the background - an item he had found at an antique store and one he eventually pursued upon his retirement - only to find it had been sold and was being loaded that very day for transport!  He bought it from the new owner on the spot!

With his law books in the background and the pipe he used to smoke - well, it added up to more than just a handsome face.  His wife had requested his clothing - she was sitting over my right shoulder as he posed for my camera - note his sweet smile expressing his absolute delight in her.  Bob usually wears his glasses, but didn't want them included in his portrait, so I naturally honored that particular request.

This couple found each other just a few years ago, in the scheme of things, after the loss of respective spouses and the raising of families.  They've chronicled their travels and time together in beautifully bound volumes that fill their bookshelves.  Their interest and pure pleasure in EVERYTHING leaves one smiling and happy as good-byes are said upon leaving their home.  Did I mention there's a guestbook to be signed upon entering their home?  So cool!  Their kindness and hospitality is the gift wrapping of their world and it surrounds all who enter it.

Thank you Bob and Evelyn for the enjoyment of it all.
